#36 Christmas Activities and Traditions

by Jolene Philo & Anne Fleck | Home Again

Our feature mentioned the nativity set Tad likes to play with. Note Hiram the fisherman to the right of Joseph. Tad adds some excitement to the early life of Baby Jesus by offering spins around the living room in the toy fire truck. A good time is had by all.

Tad’s big into Christmas crafts with Grammy. To the right is a counting chart we made with nativity stickers from Hobby Lobby. To the far right is the nativity scene we will do sometime between now and Christmas. He has already asked if he can keep the counting chart forever.

Anne and Jolene talked about the holiday baking they plan to do. Here are links to the recipes posted on the website.

  • Caramel rolls (Dairy-free version) Use the same dough recipe for cinnamon rolls. Instead of putting the sugar/corn syrup/pecan mixture in the bottom of the pan, make the dough and frost them with butter cream frosting that has a 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon added.
  • Pumpkin bread
  • Biscotti We make the recipe dairy-free by substituting half lard and half Earth Balance buttery sticks for the butter.
  • Sugar Cookies Anne will use a different recipe for cut out sugar cookies with Tad. But this recipe is delicious…so good we never make it because we can’t stop at one…or two… or three…

Finally, here are pictures of the amazing paper house, first flat, and then open and photographed from every angle. The last few pictures give an idea of what can be seen through the tiny windows.
